Cockrell School of Engineering
Wellness Space Project
In the fall of 2023, we began creating a Wellness Space for Engineering students with wellness speakers, yoga equipment & classes, and “Peer to Peer” support groups.
Our inaugural Wellness Lecture’s first Speaker was Dr. Kristin Neff, a pioneer in the field of Self-Compassion research. She has been recognized as one of the world’s most influential research psychologists. We will continue to feature a guest lecturer each semester.
We are also providing funds for yoga/meditation instructors to lead decompression classes plus support the purchase of yoga equipment.
We will partner with the University Health Services and Counseling Center to bring existing wellness programs directly to the Cockrell students.
Funds will be provided for trained student “Active Listeners” to facilitate support groups at Cockrell School on topics such as grief, suicide, and alcohol disease. The UT “Peer to Peer program is based on John Hopkin’s “A Place to Talk”.
