Our fundraiser events provide support for this project.
Cockrell School of Engineering
Wellness Program
In the fall of 2023, we began creating a Wellness Program for Engineering students with wellness speakers, yoga equipment & classes, and “Peer to Peer” support groups.
Our inaugural Wellness Lecture’s first Speaker in ‘24 was Dr. Kristin Neff, a pioneer in the field of Self-Compassion research. She has been recognized as one of the world’s most influential research psychologists. We will continue to feature a guest lecturer each semester.
Our Spring ‘25 speaker will be General Jeannie Leavitt, a UT alumna and the first female fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. She will speak about conquering fear and taming turbulence.
Our Fall ‘25 speaker will be Kristen Christy, an advisor for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and a key contributor to the creation of the 988 Lifeline. She was also named the 2018 AFI Air Force Spouse of the Year.
Funds are provided for trained student “Active Listeners” to facilitate support groups at Cockrell School on topics such as grief, suicide, and alcohol disease. The UT “Peer to Peer program is based on John Hopkin’s “A Place to Talk”.
